For 40 years, our practice has been the only ophthalmology practice serving Jasper and Central Southern Indiana, starting with Duane Flannagan, M.D. who began practicing in 1979. In 2001, Judy Englert, M.D. moved her primary practice from Evansville to Jasper. In 2004, the doctors became partners and Southern Indiana Eye Associates, LLC was established. Dr. Flannagan retired June 30, 2018. Dr. Englert is now the sole owner. Our mission is to provide quality eye care to patients of all ages. We can diagnose and treat diseases of the eyes, as well as perform surgery. Our specialties include, but are not limited to, the following: cataracts and cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, strabismus, and many other eye problems. Dr. Englert is also sub-specialized in pediatric ophthalmology with additional training in pediatrics and adult muscle problems.
In order to provide even better quality care to our patients, St. Charles Optical was opened in 2010. Our optical shop allows us to currently provide our patients with medical as well as optical needs in one convenient location!
We are excited to offer retina specialists who provide care to patients in our community. Dr. Drew Sommerville travels from Evansville to offer retina services on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Dr. Shivani Reddy, also from Evansville, sees retina patients in our clinic on the first and third Thursdays of every month. Dr. Thomas Harper travels from Louisville to offer retina services on the first and third Fridays of every month. We appreciate their willingness to travel to our community to provide these much needed services!

Meet Dr. Englert
Dr. Judy Englert graduated from Jasper High School as valedictorian then went onto obtain her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at Indiana University. She then obtained her M.D. degree at Duke University, where she also completed an ophthalmology residency. She finished her education at the Medical University of South Carolina specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and eye muscle disorders. She moved back to southern Indiana in 1999.
Dr. Englert is trained in taking care of both adult and pediatric patients. She performs cataract surgery, muscle surgery, tear duct surgery, eyelid surgery, and lasers. She will see patients of any age for treatment of eye diseases.
